LAME DEER, Mont. — The National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center (NIWRC) celebrates the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) announcement awarding $15 million over five years to StrongHearts Native Helpline to continue serving as the National Indigenous Domestic Violence Hotline.

First launched in 2017 as a collaborative project of NIWRC and the National Domestic Violence Hotline, StrongHearts was created to meet a long-standing need for services designed for Native survivors. Now, as an independent and trusted national hotline, StrongHearts connects thousands of Native survivors with advocates who understand our cultures and communities.

“Native survivors deserve a lifeline created for them, and by them,” said Lucy Simpson, Executive Director of NIWRC. “NIWRC is proud to have helped lay the foundation for StrongHearts, and we join our partners in celebrating this renewed investment in a resource that saves lives and strengthens safety for survivors throughout Indian Country.”
