The National Indigenous Women's Resource Center is thrilled to announce that the 2027 Women Are Sacred (WAS) Conference will take place October 5-7, 2027, in Temecula, California! One of the nation’s most inspiring and impactful gatherings, the Women Are Sacred Conference is a cornerstone in the movement to advance safety for Native women and communities. This powerful event brings together advocates, survivors, Tribal domestic and sexual violence programs, Tribal leadership, law enforcement, and Tribal court personnel— all united in the shared mission of creating safer, stronger Tribal communities.

The 2027 theme, "Weaving Our Future to Safety," reflects the collective work of Tribal Nations, advocates, survivors, programs, families, and communities to create lasting safety for Native women. Rooted in our communities and the sovereignty of Tribal Nations, this year’s theme looks toward the future we are building together. Attendees will experience transformative training sessions, engage in meaningful networking opportunities, and learn from some of the most respected leaders, advocates, and experts driving change in Indian Country. Registration and Call for Proposals coming soon.

We Are All Connected

Artwork by Bridgette Hoshont’omba, Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma

For WAS 2027, NIWRC is honored to feature artwork by Bridgette Hoshont’omba, a citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and interdisciplinary artist whose work is grounded in culture, community, and connection. Her piece, We Are All Connected, was inspired by connections among Native women across generations. Each woman represented carries pieces of Hoshont’omba’s own relationships and community through her regalia—from her Blackfeet ancestry and Choctaw community to her Citizen Potawatomi adoptive family and her partner’s Wyandotte (Huron-Wendat) family. The women are connected through the act of braiding hair, with colors and details woven from one woman’s regalia into the next. Created as digital ledger art using paper textures, We Are All Connected reflects the relationships we carry with us as we build toward the future—together.
