First Session: Monday, July 17, 2023
Gender-Based Violence: An Overview for Tribes and TDHEs

This session provides an overview of violence against Indigenous women and other forms of gender-based violence both on and o reservations. Participants can expect to learn about the dynamics of domestic violence/sexual assault, the responses to this violence in tribal communities, and some initial best practices for housing providers. This session will provide an overview of the Violence Against Women Act. Participants will have the opportunity to provide input around their training needs during the presentation.

Best Practices and Policy Recommendations from the Voices of Survivors

Safe, stable housing can mitigate against domestic and sexual violence, child removal by welfare systems, human tracking, economic instability and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. How can tribal communities create safe housing options and shelter access for victim/survivors of domestic violence? In this second webinar, STTARS provides valuable insight from the lived experiences of Indigenous survivors of gender-based violence. It discusses emerging policy recommendations and best practices for meeting survivor needs at the intersection of housing insecurity/homelessness and domestic/sexual violence.
